Joe Mauer Injury: Twins Catcher Meeting With Specialist In Baltimore On Monday

Joe Mauer traveled with the team on Sunday to Baltimore, and will be meeting with a specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital on Monday, according to La Velle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune. Mauer will be meeting with the same Doctor who treated  his inflamed sacroiliac joint in 2009 in what is described as an annual fallow-up exam. It just so happens that the exam is happening while he is experiencing discomfort from his bi-lateral leg weakness.

There was some speculation that the discomfort Mauer was experiencing was due to a viral infection that Mauer is just getting over, but he isn't buying it.

"I'm not a doctor," the All-Star catcher said Sunday, "but I don't feel like they are related. Before I started feeling sick, it was going to be done. I couldn't go out there and play. I needed to take a step back and not play; it is just making things worse."

If that really is the case, than Mauer's injury becomes something to worry about for Twins' fans. We'll have more on the results of that appointment when they become known.
