Liriano's Next Start To Be Pushed Back

Francisco Liriano's attempt to channel his inner Johnny Vander Meer will have to wait an extra day.

Liriano, who is coming off of a no-hitter in his last start on Tuesday against Chicago, is going to have his next start pushed back due to a sore throat.

↵

Liriano was scheduled to pitch in the series finale against the Red Sox in Boston on Monday night, but Nick Blackburn will be taking that turn in the rotation now. Liriano's next start will be on Tuesday night at Target Field against the Detroit Tigers.

As the article from Hardball Talk mentions, Liriano did throw 123 pitches in his no-hitter, so giving him an extra day's rest probably isn't the worst idea anyway, considering that he hadn't gone over the century mark in any of his other starts this season. I'm not sure if anybody is actually buying the story that Liriano is being skipped because of a sore throat, but that's just my opinion.
