Span Placed On New 7-Day Disabled List For Concussion

The Minnesota Twins have placed center fielder Denard Span on baseball's new 7-day disabled list for concussions and recalled outfielder Rene Tosoni to replace him.

Span has been out of the lineup since last Friday when he had what appeared to be a minor home plate collision with Kansas City Royals' catcher Brayan Pena. Span spent around four hours with doctors in Minneapolis on Thursday, and was diagnosed with the concussion at that time. Given what happened with first baseman Justin Morneau last season, losing the final three months of the season to a concussion, the Twins aren't going to be taking any chances with Span.

Span joins Joe Mauer, Jim Thome, Jason Kubel, Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Delmon Young, Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan, Glen Perkins, Kevin Slowey, Jose Mijares, and Jason Repko as Twins players that have had a stint on the disabled list already, just two and a half months into the 2011 baseball season.
