MLB Standings Update: Twins Need To Improve Quickly

On this Independence Day, we are just a week away from the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and the unofficial halfway point of the 2011 Major League Baseball season. While the Twins have been playing significantly better, for the most part, than they were at the beginning of the year, they need to start putting things together even more if they want to get back into the American League Central race.

The current American League Central standings look like this:

AL Central Standings

W L PCT GB STRK
Cleveland 44 38 .536 0 Lost 1
Detroit 45 40 .529 0.5 Won 1
Chicago 42 43 .494 3.5 Lost 1
Minnesota 36 46 .439 8 Won 1
Kansas City 34 50 .404 11 Won 1

While the Twins are no longer a last-place team, they still have a significant deficit staring them in the face. It's not impossible by any stretch, but the Twins will have to pick up the pace significantly. They will also have to decide whether or not they are "buyers" or "sellers" as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. The next couple of weeks will play a very big role in making that determination.
