Twins' Losing Streak Could Reach Double Digits Against Mariners

The Twins' season is almost over, and Twinkie Town has got you covered.

The Minnesota Twins' season has gotten uglier and uglier the deeper we've gotten into the month of September.

Having won just two games since the calendar turned to September, losers of their last nine in a row and 14 of their last 15, the Twins will have to get a victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday evening at Target Field if they want to avoid their first double digit losing streak since a 10-game slide in September of 1998. This is Minnesota's second nine-game losing streak of the 2011 season, and they ended the first one with a victory over. . .the Seattle Mariners. That slump stretched from May 7 to May 16.

Aussie right-hander Liam Hendriks (0-2, 6.00 ERA) will look to end the skid for the Twins on Tuesday night. After an impressive first outing, Hendriks got roughed up a bit in his outing against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings work in another Minnesota loss.

The Mariners will counter with left-hander Jason Vargas (8-13, 4.38 ERA). Vargas got knocked around pretty good by the Twins the one time he's faced them this year, as back on May 23 he allowed five runs on seven hits in just 4.2 innings of work in a game that the Mariners ultimately won by a score of 8-7.

First pitch for this one is scheduled for 7:10 PM Central time at Target Field. Twinkie Town already has the Game Thread up and running for your in-game discussion needs, and we will have the recap for you after the game is complete.
