Doug Mientkiewicz, who spent part of seven seasons with the Twins, is returning to the organization as a minor league manager.
On Monday, the Twins announced Mientkiewicz as the new manager of the minor league affiliate Fort Myers Miracle. Fort Myers is Minnesota's Single-A affiliate. Mientkiewicz, who last played during the 2009 season, spent last season as the hitting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers' rookie-league affiliate.
Mientkiewicz made his major league debut with the Twins in 1998. He played parts of seven seasons in Minnesota, playing in 643 games. Mientkiewicz was later traded to the Boston Red Sox and also played for the New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Dodgers.
In Fort Myers, Mientkiewicz will replace Jake Mauer, who will instead manage the Twins' Low-A affiliate. In addition to coaching in the Dodgers organization last season, Mientkiewicz has also worked as an analyst fro CBS Sports since retiring in 2010.
