Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Carl Pavano has been the victim of an extortion attempt, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the Record Journal Meriden.

Christian Bedard, Pavano's classmate at Southington High School in Conn., claimed the two had a physical relationship lasting three years and he allegedly attempted to extort money and an SUV. Via Phil Mackey of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities:

Pavano declined to comment on the matter through a team spokesman on Thursday.

"I haven't talked to Carl about it, and until I do, I'm not going to be able to give you much," general manager Terry Ryan said. "The first I heard of it was on the ride up here. So I'm going to have to get some details, see what Carl says, and go from there."

Pavano, 36, is a 12-year veteran of the MLB and is slated to be the Opening Day starter for the Twins.
