Per Joe Christensen of the Star Tribune, the Minnesota Twins have extended set-up man Glen Perkins. Because Perkins is already under contract for 2012, his three-year extension will keep him under team control through 2015, with 2016 being included as an option year.
The extension includes provisions for games finished, meaning that Perkins would be compensated should he be promoted into the closer's role.
From Twins Assistant General Manager Rob Antony:
"Everyone rolled their eyes when we went through everything a few years ago, thinking this guy was buried; he was in the doghouse, this guy’s gone," said Twins assistant GM Rob Antony. "And we kept saying, 'You know what, this guy’s a member of our organization. We want him to become what we thought he could become.' "
