The Minnesota Twins have placed Josh Willingham on paternity leave to attend his son's birth and recalled outfielder Ben Revere from Triple-A Rochester, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
Revere was optioned to Triple-A on April 14, when the club claimed outfielder Clete Thomas off waivers from the Tigers. Revere hit .222 in six games with Rochester while seeing time at all three outfield positions.
Willingham could return in time for Friday’s game against the Royals, but there’s still a chance he won’t make his return until Saturday. He can be on paternity leave for a maximum of three days.
In the Twins first 17 games, Willingham is batting .311 with five home runs and 12 RBI. Minnesota is currently 4th place in the Central Division with a 5-12 record on the season. The Twins play the Boston Red Sox Tuesday and Wednesday night before an off day Thursday.
