Twins Designate Jason Marquis For Assignment; Cole DeVries Brought Up From Rochester

The Minnesota Twins will select the contract of right-handed pitcher Cole DeVries, according to the Minnesota Twins' Twitter feed.

DeVries was hardly tearing it up in Rochester. The 27-year-old had a 4.24 ERA in eight starts and a 1-4 record.

Then again, it was getting harder and harder to justify have Marquis in the rotation. The 33-year-old Marquis had a 8.47 ERA this season and had lost four straight starts. His last start may have been the nail in the coffin. He went 1.2 innings and gave up eight earned runs.

The Twins have the worst ERA in the majors at 5.43.

"Select the contract" is like being recalled, but applies to players who are not already on a club's 40-man roster.
