Joe Mauer Injury: Twins Catcher Has No Set Return Date, Hopes To Be Back For Cincinnati Series

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer was only supposed to miss a couple of days with his latest injury, a bruised right quad suffered when Rickie Weeks slid into his leg at home plate. Unfortunately, he has hit a road block along the way and now has no set return date.

According to the Star Tribune, the Twins were hoping to get Mauer catching in the bullpen on Thursday, but he was unable to because of his leg. He can still pinch hit, but is unable to run or catch and is forced to get a pinch runner on if he makes it on base.

He said there's still swelling in the quad that he has to work out before he can do more on the field and get back in the lineup. So he missed the entire series in Pittsburgh and might miss a couple games in Cincinnati this weekend.

"It's not much better than yesterday," Mauer said. "I thought I'd be able to do a little bit more. It's real frustrating."

The Twins were hoping Mauer would be healthy again by the end of the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates but they're now just hoping he'll be able to make it into one of the games in their next series against Cincinnati.
