On Monday, Sports Illustrated released its annual collection of the 50 wealthiest American athletes and Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer was ranked No. 12 on the list. Obviously, Mauer's healthy salary of $23 million in 2012 from the Twins has helped catapult him just outside of the top-ten but it's Mauer's involvement in outside activities that pushed him further up the list.

Mauer's endorsement income has grown by more than $2 million since last year, thanks to relationships with Head & Shoulders, Gatorade, and Sony. He's only missed one game through May, after missing 80 games in 2011.

According to the report, the 29-year old catcher earned a cool $25.75 million in 2012, which places him between the Buffalo Bills big free agent addition, Mario Williams and three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant.
