Sports Illustrated Week 16 NFL Power Rankings: A Look Into The Future

Don Banks has his Power Rankings out at SI.com, and he’s got some pretty scathing words about the Vikings in his commentary. . .words that, sadly, are really pretty tough to argue with. Banks had the Vikings at number 21 last week, and this week’s loss has caused him to move Minnesota down to number 24.

If you look closely, you’ll see there’s been nothing fluky about Minnesota’s pathetic showing this season. The Vikings have yet to beat a team that owns more than five wins at this point, so it’s pretty clear they’ve consistently found their level in 2010. In even worse news, this is not a team poised for a big bounce-back year next season.

And he’s exactly right. . .Minnesota’s five victories have come over Detroit (four wins) Dallas (five wins), Arizona (four wins), Washington (five wins), and Buffalo (four wins). This team is going to finish either 5-11 or 6-10 themselves. . .because they’re going to get absolutely throttled in Philadelphia this Sunday night. . .and the season finale at Detroit isn’t the gimme that it’s been for the Vikings for the past few years or so, either.

This team is going to have a lot of roster turnover between 2010 and 2011. It’s going to be something to see, that’s for sure.
