New SB Nation NFL Mock Draft Moves Vikings To Quarterback Derby

The third incarnation of the SB Nation NFL Mock Draft has put the Vikings where many people expect them to be looking when this April comes around. . .firmly at the quarterback position. After some of the disappointing performances that were turned in at the Senior Bowl this past week, the mock draft has the stock of many of the quarterbacks dropping. . .so much so that they have the Vikings as the first team to actually draft a signal caller.

This week's pick in the SB Nation Mock Draft for the Vikings is quarterback Blaine Gabbert out of the University of Missouri. Here's what the folks from the mothership have to say about this pick.

It's not overly likely that the Vikings will have their pick of the litter at quarterback, but this scenario brings forth an interesting debate: Gabbert or Cam Newton? We'll go with Gabbert for now, as he's got fewer question marks (but perhaps less upside).

I think that the stock of some of the quarterbacks is going to start going back up after the scouting combine and the individual workouts and things of that nature, but for now I don't think I'd mind the potential that Gabbert would bring to the table. He's got outstanding size (6'3", 235 pounds), has good mobility, and threw 40 touchdowns to 18 interceptions over the last two seasons for the Tigers. As the analysis says, he may not have Cam Netwon's potential upside, but I don't think he has quite as much bust potential, either.
