The Minnesota Vikings play the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field this week, all but ensuring some big stories are going to happen in the lead-up to the rivalry game between the two NFC North teams. Until that happens, however, the Vikings have decided to sign Reggie Jones to the team's practice squad.
Jones probably won't make much of an impact for the Vikings, at least not like he did for his alma mater Portland State Vikings, but his story is one worth rooting for if he ever does make it to Minnesota's 53-man roster.
Police said Tonya Jones lit her sleeping husband on fire. Consumed by panic, Reggie Jones remembers only a "blurry" image of his mother standing by the kitchen door on the phone. She called 911 four times while her husband lay writhing in pain as the flames burned 90 percent of his body in 10 minutes.
"I seen my dad all charred from the flames. . . . I seen them handcuff my mom and they took her away," Jones said. "I had my two sisters standing under my arms and they're both looking at me like, ‘Bro, what are we going to do?' "
The above block quote is courtesy of a feature on Jones in the Washington Post as he attempted to make the Washington Redskins earlier this season. He has yet to play in the NFL, but if he does, his story will become all the more remarkable.
