Today, prior to the kickoff of the Super Bowl, the National Football League recognized Minnesota Vikings safety Madieu Williams as the 2010 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award recipient.
↵Williams is in the Persian Gulf on a goodwill tour, and accepted the award via a video feed while surrounded by service members in Iraq.
↵↵↵"It is a tremendous honor to win this award named after Walter Payton, one of the greatest men to ever play in the National Football League," said Williams, surrounded by service members in Iraq. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there to accept the award, but it's an even greater honor to be here with the 4th Infantry Division and Task Force Iron Horse."
↵
For all of Madieu Williams' shortfalls of the field this year. . .something that can be said for pretty much every member of the 2010 Minnesota Vikings. . .his off-field exploits have given every member of the Minnesota Vikings' organization and their fan base something to be incredibly proud of.
↵Congratulations on this award, Mr. Williams.
