With the NFL Players beating the owners in court much like Muhammad Ali beat Randall ‘Tex’ Cobb way back in the day, the players, or at least there representation, or at least DeMaurice Smith, is getting pretty froggy.
Smith mentioned that it was a new day in the NFL, and that they are now operating under ‘free market principles’, and that there might not even be a draft in the future.
In this new landscape, a draft would constitute a violation of anti-trust laws, because you can’t really tell a guy where they have to work.
Maybe it’s just bluster, but with the roll that the players are on, who’s to say what’s going to happen?
But that discussion is for a later time. It’s draft day, and the Carolina Panthers are on the clock.
