Former Vikings DE Ray Edwards is on his way to the Ay-Tee-El, reportedly agreeing to a five year, $30 million ($11 million guaranteed).
Edwards had been a productive player for the Vikings, and after Carolina paid hostage ransom money for Charles Johnson, it seemed Edwards was in line to get a little Stockholm Syndrome off of Johnson’s payday, but Ray’s deal is significantly less.
It seemed like a reasonable contract, and one that the Vikings could have given for Edwards, so it seems that Minnesota didn’t want Ray to return, and that feeling was mutual. Edwards began complaining about his contract situation two years ago, and during the off-season he was adamant that he was not returning to Minnesota.
With Edwards now on his way to Atlanta, that means that come opening day the Vikings will be starting three new players on the defensive line, with Jared ALlen as the only player returning.
