Earlier today, the Minnesota Vikings announced roster cuts to get to the NFL mandated level of 80 players. They are:
DB Chris Adingupu
OL Conan Amituanai
TE Ed Barham
QB Rhett Bomar
DB Simeon Castille
LB Jonathan Gilmore
WR Andre Holmes
LB Kyle O’Donnell
K Nate Whitaker
DT Colby Whitlock
There are no surprises at all on this list, but it’s just the first set of cuts. QB Rhett Bomar, acquired in the trade last year that sent QB Sage Rosenfels and RB Darius Reynaud to the Giants, hadn’t played in the pre-season and got a DUI on the Vikes only day off in training camp. K Nate Whitaker had only had one kickoff, and DT Coly Whitlock was a late signing and had virtually no opportunity to make an impression.
The next will come on Sunday, when teams must get down to the final roster size of 53, and that’s the cutdown day where we usually see some surprises.
