Vikings punter Chris Kluwe struggled in Minnesota's 36-17 loss to Tampa Bay last Thursday and the team has responded by working out punter Brian Stahovich on Tuesday, according to Aaron Wilson of Fox Sports.
Kluwe punted six times with a long of 55-yards against the Buccaneers for an average of 37.8 yards per punt. Kluwe heard boos from the Minnesota crowd after a 20-yard punt.
Stahovich punted for San Diego State from 2008 to 2011. After not getting drafted, the Indianapolis Colts signed Stahovich last April before cutting him in August. Stahovich averaged 43.4 yards per punt in his final season with the Aztecs which earned him All-Mountain West honors.
The Vikings also threatened to replace Kluwe in 2008 by bringing in four punters to workout during the season.
This year, Kluwe ranks 26th in the NFL with a gross average of 43.8 yards per punt. Through his eight-year career, Kluwe is averaging 44.4 gross yards per punt.
