An ankle injury caused Minnesota Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson to be "out of whack" in the first half of Minnesota's 30-7 victory Sunday over the Tennessee Titans, the Pioneer Press' Brian Murphy is reporting. According to Peterson, he twisted his ankle on the second play of the game and needed treatment at halftime. The injury not only affected him physical -- he wasn't able to get in and out of cuts -- but mentally as well.
"I was thinking about my ankle too much because it was tender," Peterson said. "I had to come in the second half and readjust. I did all right the second half, but I can do better."
Despite the handicap, Peterson still finished with 88 yards on 17 carries. The performance wasn't as impressive as last week's 102-yard game against the Detroit Lions, but it was good enough to help lead the Vikings (4-1) to their third straight victory.
Peterson's injury isn't expected to keep him out of any games, but the 6'1, 217-pound tailback admitted he'll need to get over how it affects his playing ability.
"I got my ankle twisted up. I couldn't cut and I was trying to test it out. That threw my focus off," he said. "I was hesitant on some plays, but the guys kept me encouraged. I got through it."
Last season, the six-year veteran battled a nagging ankle injury before suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 16.
Next week, Minnesota travels to the nation's capital to play the Washington Redskins (4:25 p.m. ET on FOX).
