The Minnesota Vikings won't need to worry about George Paton moving on from the franchise to the St. Louis Rams. On Saturday, the team announced that Paton had been promoted from director of player personnel to assistant general manager.
Paton had been one of two finalists for the St. Louis Rams' vacant general manager position. However, Paton has been a long-time friend of general manager Rick Spielman and now has formally received the title to go along with the power he had as the director of player personnel. Paton has been with the team since the 2006 season.
The Vikings have the No. 3 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft following its 3-13 2011 season. Paton will certainly have a large role in deciding whom the team will draft in April.
