After getting a safety on the New England Patriots' first offensive play, the New York Giants thought they'd put some points on the board in a more conventional way on their second drive.
After the Giants fielded the free kick on their own 22-yard line, Eli Manning led the team on a nine-play, 78 yard drive in which they shredded the Patriots' defense. Manning has gotten off to a red-hot start in this game, as he has completed all nine of his pass attempts. His most recent pass came on a 2nd-and-goal play from the New England 2-yard line, when he somehow threaded a slant around Jerrod Mayo and into the hands of Victor Cruz, who held on for the touchdown.
And, yes, there was much salsa dancing afterwards.
To this point, with 3:19 left in the first quarter of play, the Giants have run 19 offensive plays, while the Patriots have run just one.
We're nearly through the first quarter of play in Indianapolis, and the New York Giants hold a 9-0 lead over the New England Patriots.
