Barring the Minnesota Vikings trying to get too cute with the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the player that they have been linked to for a very long time is USC offensive lineman Matt Kalil.
However, in his most recent mailbag, ESPN draft sage Adam Schefter has said that might not be the pick after all. This came as part of a question concerning the Buffalo Bills trading up for Kalil. Said Schefter,
The key to that would be Minnesota passing on Kalil, which I happen to believe the Vikings will. I'm in the minority there, and the Vikings are still deciding what to do, but I don't think Kalil is the lock that others do -- even if Minnesota stays at No. 3.
So, Schefter thinks the Vikings will pass on the big left tackle for another player. Personally, I'm fine with passing on Matt Kalil only if it's the result of a trade down that nets the Vikings more draft choices. If Spielman stays at #3 and takes a player other than Matt Kalil, he's likely going to have a very angry fan base on his hands.
As he should.
