The start of the NFL preseason is a sign the regular season is not too far away. With that also comes the start of fantasy football season. SB Nation's fantasy sports site, Fake Teams, recently released their 2012 fantasy football position rankings.
Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback Christian Ponder came in at No. 26 on Fake Teams' quarterback rankings. The lower ranking shouldn't come as too much of a surprise after Ponder had up-and-down results in his 10 starts as a rookie last year.
Ponder threw for 1,853 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2011 while completing 54.3 percent of his passes. At No. 26, Ponder is ranked below players like Matt Flynn, Sam Bradford and Matt Cassel. He is, however, ahead of fellow second-year quarterbacks Jake Locker and Blaine Gabbert.
Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson and Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave have all highlighted the improvement Ponder has made since his rookie season, so it's possible he will rise on the rankings as the season goes along.
