Vikings Training Camp: Rookie Cornerback Robert Blanton May Play Entire Preseason Game Against Houston Texans

Vikings rookie cornerback Robert Blanton has yet to play this preseason, but he may play the entire game Thursday versus the Houston Texans, writes Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500.

After Blanton suffered a hamstring injury in late July, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier is excited to see what the young cornerback is capable of.

"We do plan on starting him and playing him for quite awhile so we can properly evaluate him as well," Frazier said. "He's missed a lot of time."

Minnesota suffered through various injuries in Friday's loss to the San Diego Chargers with the result being five defensive backs unable to practice Sunday. Blanton's likely extensive playing time is more than just the result of not having proper game experience thus far. The Vikings desperately need healthy players at the cornerback position.

Blanton was selected in the fifth round by the Minnesota Vikings out of the University of Notre Dame.
