Vikings Depth Chart: Jarius Wright, Marcus Sherels Battling For Punt Return Duties

Entering the final week of the preseason, the Minnesota Vikings punt return job belongs to Marcus Sherels not Jarius Wright, special teams coordinator Mike Prifer announced Monday after the Vikings' practice.

The difference between the two, says Prifer, is Wright has gone down too easily during some returns, and cited the 18-yard punt return from Wright during the Vikings' 12-10 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Friday as an example.

"I don't think he ran with enough conviction there," Priefer said. "When he saw it on tape I think he believed what I was telling him. I said, 'You got to run hard.' ... He's not a real big guy, but he's strong enough to break through those arm tackles."

Prifer did admit the job will punt return job will not be given to either Sherels or Wright until the Vikings' last preseason game, Thursday, at the Houston Texans.
