Joe Webb Starting Vikings' Preseason Finale

The Minnesota Vikings will turn to Joe Webb to start Thursday's preseason finale against the Houston Texans on Thursday. Regular starter Christian Ponder is among the starters who have the night off, giving Webb a chance to shine.

Webb has gone 17-for-34 with 152 yards passing in the Vikings' three previous games and has added 73 yards on the ground. Webb will be used some during the regular season in what Vikings coaches are calling the "Blazer" package, but expect the Vikings to try to showcase Webb's ability in the pocket rather than his running game. Against the Chargers on Aug. 24, Webb went six of eight and didn't attempt a single called running play. The Vikings are hoping for a similar performance on Thursday.

Sage Rosenfels will serve as Webb's backup and see action in the second half.
