The Minnesota Vikings are going young. The team announced on Friday that it has cut veteran quarterback Sage Rosenfels as it slims its roster down to 53 players.

Despite cutting Rosenfels, the Vikings still owe him his $500,000 base salary for the 2012 season along with a $50,000 "workout bonus." Letting go of Rosenfels means that the Vikings will enter the season with Christian Ponder, Joe Webb and McLeod Bethel-Thompson as their quarterbacks.
Rosenfels has spent nine years in the NFL, but has not thrown a pass in a regular season game since Week 13 of the 2008 season as a member of the Houston Texans.
