The Minnesota Vikings have increased their lead over the San Francisco 49ers at the Metrodome, and in the most unlikely of ways.
The Vikings started out on their own 20-yard line after a touchback on David Akers' kickoff following a San Francisco field goal, and Christian Ponder and the Vikings went to work again. The Vikings moved the ball into San Francisco territory thanks to a couple of key third down conversions, including a big one to Devin Aromashodu. Then, on first and ten from the Niners' 23-yard line, Ponder was under heavy pressure, and he pulled it down and took off.
Twenty-three yards later, Ponder was diving into the end zone, and giving Minnesota a 14-3 lead.
It's just a part of what's been a great afternoon thus far for Ponder, who has completed 11-of-15 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter and a half of play. This most recent Vikings' scoring drive covered 80 yards in 11 plays, and took 6:44 off the clock.
With 5:29 remaining until halftime in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Vikings are shocking the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 14-3.
