The Minnesota Vikings have shot up various NFL power rankings from around the Internet following their 24-13 upset of the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday. The 49ers were the unanimously top-ranked team in the power rankings heading into Week 3, and the Vikings received some respect in the rankings for knocking them off.
In Joel Thorman's rankings at SB Nation the Vikings moved up six spots, from 25th to 19th. He has the Vikings as the lowest ranked of the two-win teams, but he knows he's not giving them the respect they deserve.
19. Minnesota Vikings (LW: 25, 2-1): They're probably still not getting enough credit from me, especially after beating the 49ers. Four of their final six games of the season are division games. That's looking kinda important right now.
At ESPN, the Vikings jumped up eight spots but still only came in at 21st in the rankings. Elliot Harrison at NFL.com had the Vikings as his biggest mover of the week, rising 10 spots from 26th to 16th. Brian Billick of Fox Sports also had the Vikings climbing ten spots in his rankings, up to 18th overall. All three sites praised the play of Christian Ponder, who made plays with his arm and his legs and has yet to throw an interception this season. The Vikings average ranking between the four sites came out to 18.5.
The Vikings will attempt to continue their move up through the standings and power rankings when they take on the Detroit Lions this Sunday.
