Minnesota Wild Center Warren Peters Likely to Face Suspension

The Minnesota Wild's Warren Peters should keep is phone near him, he's likely going to need it. In the third period of today's game, Peter's crosschecked the Blue's David Backes in the side of the head. Peters later told reporters there was no malice intended, but a hit to the head is a hit to the head.

Similar incidents are almost always followed by suspension, and no one has found a single shred of evidence to suggest this hit was warranted. Gif of the hit is available after the jump. Peters is looking a minimum two game suspension here, and could very well see the mistake cost him his spot on the roster.

This is an unacceptable hit to make at any point in any game. The league is highly unlikely to let this one slide, and with Peters' tenuous status on the roster as it is, once that penalty is served, expect him to be reassigned to the Houston Aeros.

Peters was, according to all reports, trying to stick up for teammates, but this is not the way to do that. Also to note, the Blues say Backes suffered no apparent injury on the play, so at least there is that small bit of good news.
