NHL Mock Draft: Minnesota Wild Bloggers Select Defenseman Jacob Trouba

For SB Nation's official NHL Mock Draft, bloggers for each team pick the player they think is the best available. And the Minnesota Wild delegation selected defenseman Jacob Trouba in the first round.

According to Hockey Wildnerness, SB Nation's Minnesota Wild blog, Trouba is the best defenseman in this year's draft.

From the Hockey Wilderness breakdown of Trouba:

Trouba has ALL the tools to become an elite defenseman, however he needs to refine all his areas of play, besides the skating and physicality. Needs to refine his shot, needs to refine his consistent defensive play.

But at pick #7, you have to expect prospects to come with some flaws but Trouba comes as safe as any draft eligible prospects come at this stage of the draft. Sort of reminds me of the time we drafted Marco Scandella; an all toolsy defenseman, except this time Trouba comes with a more polished package as well as a high offensive upside.

Minnesota was in the top half of the league last year (No. 13) in goals allowed -- 2.65 per game. The Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils, the two teams that squared off in the Stanley Cup Finals, were both in the top 10 in goal allowed.
