(Sports Network) - Blake Griffin had his double-double streak snapped, but scored 21 of his game-high 29 points in the first half to carry the Clippers to a 126-111 drubbing of the Timberwolves.

The anticipated matchup between Griffin and Minnesota's Kevin Love was one- sided, with the rookie dominating in the opening half to give the Clips a double-digit cushion they never relinquished.

Griffin pulled down eight rebounds, ending his run of double-doubles at 27, and the backcourt combination of Eric Gordon and Baron Davis carried Los Angeles in the second half for its sixth win in seven games.

Gordon, who suffered a ligament injury to his right ring finger in the first quarter, netted 18 of his 23 points in the final 24 minutes, while Davis added 20 points in the lopsided win.

Love put up most of his stats when the game was out of reach, logging 26 points and 11 rebounds in the loss, Minnesota's third straight and eighth in nine games. The Timberwolves shot 1-for-16 from three-point range.

(Sports Network) - A pair of double-double machines will square off in Hollywood tonight when Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers welcome Kevin Love and his Minnesota Timberwolves to Staples Center.

Griffin scored an NBA season-best 47 points to go along with 14 rebounds on Monday, as the Clippers topped the Indiana Pacers, 114-107, for their fifth straight home victory.

Griffin also accounted for his 27th consecutive double-double and broke his own record for points in a game by a Clippers rookie.

"Spectacular performance by Griffin," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "We couldn't guard him, he was too much to handle."

Eric Gordon added 23 points and seven assists, while Baron Davis notched 14 points and 12 assists for LA, which has won five of six overall.

Griffin became just the third player in NBA history to record a game of 47 points and 14 boards while 21 or younger, joining Michael Jordan (49 and 15 in 1984-85) and Rick Barry (57 and 15 in 1965-66). The Oklahoma product is also just the second rookie over the past 25 seasons to record at least 45 points and 10 rebounds in a game with the other being Shaquille O'Neal back in 1993.

"I wanted to come out and execute," Griffin said. "It's fun to play well, but it's more fun to get the win. The way we've been playing as a team, it helps everyone right now."

The Wolves, meanwhile, fell to a dismal 2-20 on the road this season in Portland on Monday when LaMarcus Aldridge scored a career-high 37 points with 12 rebounds and the Portland Trail Blazers resumed their dominance of Minnesota with a 113-102 win at the Rose Garden.

Despite the loss, Love recorded his 28th consecutive double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who have lost seven of eight overall. Darko Milicic had 22 points and eight rebounds.

"We got off to a really good start, then we go through these periods where we start trying to do too much and we turn the basketball over," said Minnesota head coach Kurt Rambis.

Love has an NBA-best 37 double-doubles this season, four more than Griffin, who holds down second place.

The Clippers snapped a two-game skid against the Wolves with a 113-90 rout at Staples Center on Dec. 20.

(Sports Network) - Northwest Division rivals clash in the Pacific Northwest Monday when the Portland Trail Blazers aim for their 15th consecutive win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Blazers, who haven't lost to the Wolves since March 25, 2007, snapped a three-game skid on Saturday when LaMarcus Aldridge scored 27 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists, as Portland used a late surge to take down the New Jersey Nets, 96-89.

Nicolas Batum added a season-high 23 points and six boards for the Blazers, who improved to 13-5 at the Rose Garden. Andre Miller chipped in 19 points and eight assists for Portland, which got 10 points and six rebounds from Wesley Matthews.

"We knew going down the stretch that we needed some stops," Blazers forward Marcus Camby said. "The emphasis in the shoot around today was defense, especially defense in the fourth quarter when we need it the most."

The Wolves, meanwhile, lost for the sixth time in seven games on Saturday when Jason Richardson and J.J. Redick each scored 21 points to pace the Orlando Magic over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 108-99, at the Target Center.

Corey Brewer finished with a season-high 23 points and five steals for the Timberwolves, who played without star forward Michael Beasley for a second straight game due to a sprained left ankle. Luke Ridnour tallied 19 points and six assists and Darko Milicic added 13 points and six boards.

Kevin Love recorded his 27th consecutive double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

"This is the best I've felt all year," said Brewer. "I felt like I was starting to get better, the ball was starting to feel a lot better coming out of my hands."

Beasley remains questionable for tonight's contest.

The Blazers have won nine of 11 on their home floor and Minnesota is just 2-19 as the visitor on the year.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are officially at the halfway point of their NBA season and, as expected, it really hasn't been pretty for the most part. While we've seen the emergence of Kevin Love as a true NBA superstar. . .he leads the Wolves in scoring and rebounding with 21.2 points and 15.7 rebounds per game. . .the Timberwolves have only managed to taste victory in ten of their first 41 games this season.

In what can only be classed as bit of strange scheduling, the Timberwolves only have two games this week, followed by an extended break.

The first game of the Wolves' "week," such as it is, will take place tonight in Portland as the Timberwolves will head out west to take on the Portland Trail Blazers. The Trail Blazers are currently sitting in fourth place in the Northwest Division, and the Timberwolves reside in fifth place. However, Portland's record of 21-20 is a full 11 games better than Minnesota's 10-31 mark, so Portland doesn't have to worry about heading for the basement any time soon. These two teams have gotten together twice already this season, with both games resulting in Portland victories. The Trail Blazers won 107-102 in Portland back on December 17, and a 108-98 win at the Target Center on January 7. Tip-off for this one will be a late one, 9:00 PM Central time, and the game can be seen on Fox Sports North. You can also listen to the action on KFAN-AM 1130.

On Wednesday, the Wolves will slide down the West Coast to Los Angeles to do battle with Blake Griffin and the Clippers at the Staples Center. The Clippers currently have a record of 14-25, good for fourth place in the NBA's Pacific Division. These two teams have also played each other twice this season already, and the results have been a split. Minnesota squeaked out a 113-111 victory at the Target Center on November 17, and the Clippers thumped the Timberwolves 113-90 in their previous trip to Los Angeles this season. Tip-off for this one is going to be even later, with things getting started at 9:30 PM Central time, and you can also watch the game on Fox Sports North or listen to it on KFAN-AM 1130.

And that's officially it for the week, folks. After the game with the Clippers, the Wolves' next game will be on January 24, which makes it part of next week's preview, and not this week's. If you can stay up late and follow this week's action, please do so.
