SB Nation's home for San Jose Sharks news, Fear the Fin, has posted their reaction to last night's big trade that saw the Wild send Martin Havlat to San Jose in exchange for Dany Heatley. When the news was first posted over at Fear the Fin, the natives were, largely, pretty restless to say the least.

Now, they've got some analysis of the trade up on their site. Here's what they think about it.

The biggest key to this deal is whether or not Dany Heatley's injuries last season (groin, broken hand) are recurring or if they were a one time issue that won't be a problem next season. Doug Wilson has historically had an excellent track record of identifying when a player is on the downswing of his career, and that factor could prove instrumental in understanding why the Sharks gave up the more prominent point producer in this trade-- as Gabe said, the Sharks got worse today by a slight margin, but not so much so as to make the cap savings irrelevant.

After the additions of Michal Handzus and Martin Havlat, there is no doubt that San Jose is going to be tougher to play against at even strength next season. With the addition of puck moving defenseman Brent Burns at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the effects of Dany Heatley's loss on the power play should be mitigated to some degree. And while I think Dany Heatley is a better player than Martin Havlat when taken as a complete whole, the idea of becoming a better defensive team up and down the lineup is an appealing one when the addition of Burns has made the Sharks a more formidable force in the offensive zone. That's something that Havlat provides and an area where Heatley lacked.

I don't think anyone questions that, based on pure talent, Dany Heatley is a markedly better player than Martin Havlat. However, if Fear the Fin is right and Doug Wilson (their coach) is correct on his hunch about Heatley being on the downswing of his career, then this trade becomes much more even.

Keep your eyes on both Hockey Wilderness and Fear the Fin for more reaction to this trade, and on Hockey Wilderness for any more Wild news that might come across.

It hasn't taken long for our friends at Hockey Wilderness to react to the trade that has seen Martin Havlat waiving his no-trade clause and getting shipped to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for much-maligned winger Dany Heatley.

From all accounts, they seem to view it as a positive.

Heatley's the kind of player who will work well as a pure sniper. He can create his own shot, he's a big body in front and will put the puck on net more frequently than anyone this franchise has seen since Marian Gaborik left.

For the kind of production Heatley has provided and is projected to provide along side Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Mikko Koivu, Heatley's contract is fantastic.

More information as the details come out, but frankly, it's a move I like, no matter my opinion about Heatley's past. He's a productive player and an offensive threat any time he's on the ice.

This is the second big trade that the Wild and Sharks have been involved in this off-season. On draft day, the Sharks sent 24-year old goal scorer Devin Setoguchi, prospect Charlie Coyle, and a first-round pick that turned into Zack Phillips to the Wild in exchange for defenseman Brent Burns and a second-round draft choice.

Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune has reported on Twitter that the Minnesota Wild have made what would have to qualify as a blockbuster trade.

Havlat was the Wild's leading goal scorer last season, lighting the lamp 22 times and tying Mikko Koivu for the overall team lead in scoring with 62 points. Heatley had 26 goals and 38 assists for the San Jose Sharks last season for a total of 64 points. He was the Sharks' third-leading goal scorer and fourth on the team in points overall.

Heatley is scheduled to make $8 million next season, $6 million in 2012-13 and $5 million in 2013-14. Havlat has four years left on his deal that is valued at approximately $5 million a year.

The Minnesota Wild have taken a step to help their special teams for the 2011-12 season, sending a third-round choice in the 2013 NHL Draft to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Darroll Powe.

Powe, a 26-year old center that can also play on the wing, is viewed as someone that will help the Wild out with their penalty killing. He will also make the Wild younger and faster, which appears to be a priority for Wild GM Chuck Fletcher now that the Mike Yeo era in St. Paul is set to get underway.

Our friends over at Hockey Wilderness seem to be fans of this trade.

For better or for worse, the Minnesota Wild are headed to a youth movement, and this is another step. As JS pointed out on Twitter, this likely marks the end of John Madden with the Wild, as Powe fills the same role. I sit in favor of this trade, as if that matters to anyone. Small price, young, gritty player who can hit. Put him on a line with Clutterbuck, and watch people beg to get off the ice.
