In a refreshing set of circumstances, the Minnesota Timberwolves (5-8) pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Sacramento Kings (4-10) 99-86 at Target Center in Minneapolis on Monday night.

A back-and-forth game throughout the first three quarters, the Timberwolves blew the game open in the fourth, outscoring the Kings 32-24 behind 11 fourth-quarter points by Kevin Love. The star power forward finished the game with 33 points and 11 rebounds in 41 minutes. Luke Ridnour also had a fantastic game for Minnesota, scoring 25 points on 10-14 shooting along with 9 assists and just 1 turnover.

The win comes one game after the Timberwolves led by 18 late in the third quarter before falling 93-91 on the road to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Timberwolves stay at home to host the floundering Detroit Pistons (3-10) in a game scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. eastern time on Wednesday, before hitting the road for a pair of games out west against the Los Angeles Clippers (7-3) and Utah Jazz (8-4).

The Minnesota Timberwolves find themselves in another tight game, leading the Sacramento Kings 67-62 after three quarters of play at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Tuesday night.

Luke Ridnour has sparkled at point guard, totaling 19 points on 8-12 shooting along with 6 assists so far. Ricky Rubio has struggled shooting the ball (2-8 from the field) but has chipped in with 4 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists while sharing the starting backcourt with Ridnour.

Kevin Love leads Minnesota with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

On Saturday, the Timberwolves led by 18 late in the third quarter before falling 93-91 on the road to the Atlanta Hawks, so it is hard to predict how this one will end up.

A sluggish second quarter has the Minnesota Timberwolves trailing the Sacramento Kings 46-44 at halftime at Target Center in Minneapolis on Monday night.

While Minnesota has improved after finishing with the worst record in the NBA last season, they continue to struggle at home this season. Entering the game with a 2-5 record at Target Center, only four teams have a worse home record than Minnesota.

And after coming back to take a lead after one quarter, the Timberwolves scored just four points in the final six minutes of the first half, watching an eight-point lead turn into a four-point deficit.

On a positive, note, although overshadowed at times by fellow point guards rookie phenom Ricky Rubio and NBA champion and offseason free-agent signing Jose Juan Barea, it has been the steady hand of Luke Ridnour helping lead the charge for Minnesota tonight, as he leads the team with 12 points on 5-7 shooting along with 4 assists.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have shown flashes of improved play this season, and after a slow start, they showed a few more of those flashes as they ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 28-22 lead after one quarter of play against the Sacramento Kings at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Kevin Love followed a five-footer with a three-pointer and then a Wesley Johnson buzzer-beating layup gave Minnesota a 28-22 lead.

However, Ricky Rubio is off to a rough start shooting the ball, making 1-5 from the field for 2 points. Rubio started the game and shared the backcourt with fellow point guard Luke Ridnour, who leads the Timberwolves with 10 points on 4-5 shooting.

Sacramento entered the game with a 1-6 record on the road, and they entered the game with a -4.6 first quarter differential, second worst in the NBA.

Sporting just a 2-5 record at home, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a chance to improve on that on Monday as they post the struggling Sacramento Kings. Though Minnesota lost in their last outing, the Kings have won just one game on the road this season, dropping the other six. The Timberwolves will likely be out for blood after dropping an exceedingly close game at Atlanta, collapsing late to be downed 93-91. Sacramento, on the other hand, was dominated by a large margin, losing to the Dallas Mavericks 99-60.

It was Sacramento's second-straight loss following a rare 98-91 win over Toronto on Jan. 11. The Kings haven't won two games in a row all season, and now they stand little chance of doing so over their next two, with a tough outing against Indiana following their tilt against Minnesota. The Timberwolves are hoping for a 2-0 homestand with the similarly struggling Detroit coming in on Wednesday.

Game Date/Time: Monday, Jan. 16, 8:00 p.m. ET

Minnesota have some good wins at their home court this year. A weak Sacramento team should add another tally to the W column if Minnesota can play well together.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (4-8) had a hectic week from the 8th to the 14th, playing three games in a row at one point and then a back to back to finish the week off. There's no rest for the weary though, and Minnesota have to come back after only a single day of rest to face the reeling Sacramento Kings (4-9).

The Kings have not been playing good basketball lately, or at all this season. Their most recent game was a 99-60 thrashing at the hands of the defending champion Dallas Mavericks and most of their games this year have been just about as close. The team does have some talent on it in Demarcus Cousins and Jimmer Fredette has been about as exciting as a rookie on a terrible team can be.

Minnesota hasn't played great ball this season either, but have some nice wins over the Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs on their resume, both at home. With tonight's game in Minnesota, that's just one more nail in the side of the already crippled Kings.

The Timberwolves' talented starting crew, specifically Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love, should be able to find a way to carve the weak Sacramento defense open, and should look to get the game in hand as quickly as possible so the assuredly tired team can rest as much as possible before Wednesday when they play Detroit followed by yet another back to back on the west coast against the Clippers and Jazz.
