Junior college power forward Daniel Edozie withdrew his verbal commitment from Minnesota on Monday.

Just five days after he gave his verbal commitment to Minnesota, junior college power forward Daniel Edozie withdrew his commitment from Minnesota on Monday.

The 6'8 240-pound forward told the Pioneer Press that he liked the way Minnesota coach Tubby Smith and his staff approached the recruiting process. Now, less than a week later, Edozie and the Minnesota staff reportedly mutually decided to part ways.

Edozie also received interest from Oregon and Oklahoma, although neither school offered a scholarship. With Edozie no longer in the class, Minnesota has three available scholarships with Alvin Ellis the only player currently committed as part of the 2013 class. According to a report from the Star Tribune, Minnesota is reportedly recruiting several other interior players including Gavin Schilling and Nigel Hayes.

It's still unknown what happened between Edozie and Minnesota although Amelia Rayno of the Star Tribune said, "it appears that some wires were crossed in the recruiting process and the two sides might not have been on the same page."

Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball program landed a verbal commitment from 6'8, 240-pound forward Daniel Edozie on Oct. 3.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball team received a verbal commitment from 6'8, 240-pound forward Daniel Edozie on Oct. 3, and the junior college transfer from Tyler Junior College in Texas says it had a lot to do with how head coach Tubby Smith and his staff approached the recruiting process. Edozie told the Pioneer Press that Minnesota was honest from the beginning during recruitment, and now he has his sights set on averaging a double-double in points and rebounds. As Edozie put it: "I like being underrated because you have a chance to surprise people."

He also received interest from Oregon and Oklahoma, but neither school offered him a scholarship. Minnesota did present Edozie with a scholarship, and now Tubby Smith and company have two scholarships remaining for the class.

The Gophers are currently preparing for the upcoming season, where they have big games scheduled against the Duke Blue Devils on Nov. 22 in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas, and against the Florida State Seminoles on Nov. 27 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
